Tiki on The Thames
For those of you not aware, this week was London Rum Experience Week from 12-18 October. Nothing says Rum quite like a Tiki Party, so last Thursday we went along to a Tiki Boat party hosted by Ian Burrell, the Global Rum Ambassador, and Cheeky Tiki.
These guys are responsible for designing and fitting out all the wonderful Tiki and Themed Bars you see popping up around the world.
I woke up Thursday morning wondering how I was going to get all my work done in time to run off to the party that evening, only to open an email saying the party started at 2pm.
That cut my day in half so I dashed through my emails and started looking for something suitable to wear for a Tiki party in Autumn on the Thames.
I settled on a Hawaiian print Kitty Dress I had made for my holiday last summer, with some warm underwear, of course, as I knew it was going to be a bit chilly on the boat. Lucy arrived at my house in a Sarong from the Office (brave girl) and we were off.
So it is October and the weather wasn’t ideal, but the sun was nearly out and it wasn’t raining- so for British weather it was a pretty good start. We all gathered on Festival Pier as the last touches were added to the Tiki Boat. Then the captain appeared and we all boarded.
The music got us in the mood straight away with some South Sea sounds and Tiki Lounge. Before we knew it we were cruising along the Thames sipping Piña Coladas mixed by the Ambassador himself.
Ian was wonderful- mixing one fabulous Rum cocktail after another with a cheeky smile and plenty of charm as we all ran around getting photographs of our favourite London Landmarks while standing under a palm tree.
Just when we thought the fun was all over, as we were leaving the boat we were given wristbands for an evening of cocktails at Mahiki the Tiki Bar in Dover Street that Jamey and Anjy at Cheeky Tiki designed and built. So after a dash through St James’s Park there was lots more fun to be had, as we sipped more gorgeous cocktails served up to us by beautiful girls all wearing their Vivien of Holloway Hawaiian Sarongs.
I had a chat with the lovely Manager and it seems we should organise a Mahiki Meet Up which will include a few free cocktails for our Vivettes. So ladies, don’t forget to join our new Facebook group…
